...keeping hope alive...
Mission is at the heart of who we are. The works of Mercy are the ‘business of our lives’, reaching out to those in need.
Inspiring us always as we seek to align Mercy’s mission to the needs of our time, is Catherine McAuley’s vision for a world where God’s love and mercy are experienced by all.
To be in whanaungatanga – right relationship – is to enhance the quality of human life; and it’s also a call for humans to be at home in the Earth, with all other living species. Knowing that all of us belong is one of Mercy’s gifts; recognising that all living creatures are interconnected is another.
The vision of Nga Whaea Atawhai o Aotearoa is shaped by Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the cry of Papatūānuku. The call of the Gospel and the spirit of Catherine McAuley inspire Mercy’s vision to unfold in transformative action within these contexts and in the emerging needs of today’s society.
Its life and meaning come from 'why' and 'how' we do it.
