Mercy Hospice Auckland, established in 1979 as St Joseph’s Hospice, is one of New Zealand's original and foremost hospices. It provides a multidisciplinary programme of care for people who are dying, in both the community and its 15 bed Inpatient Unit. The Hospice service is given at no charge to patients or families. Donations and bequests contribute significantly to Hospice funding. In January 2007 the hospice moved from its former Epsom site to a purpose developed facility in Ponsonby.
