Education

The traditional Mercy commitment to education continues in many forms, including five congregationally owned secondary schools.

McAuley High School Auckland is a diocesan secondary school committed to the Mercy charism.

Chaplaincy, pastoral care and mission support in education ministry are also provided.

Professionally qualified sisters also work in tertiary and adult education, religious education and resource roles.

Drawing on their previous teaching experience, some sisters tutor adults, teenagers, and speakers of other languages, in literacy and numeracy.

Many primary and secondary schools formerly operated by the Sisters of Mercy in Aotearoa New Zealand retain strong links with the Mercy charism.

In Samoa Nga Whaea Atawhai o Aotearoa Sisters of Mercy New Zealand administer and teach in Paul VI College, St Joan of Arc Primary and Pre-school, Leulumoega and St Theresa’s Primary and Pre-school, Fusi.
